Amazon Prime’s Fallout is a glowing example of a video game adaptation done right. In its skillful delivery of classic Fallout humor, the show has also given us compelling main characters in the form of Lucy MacLean, Maximus, and Cooper Howard as the Ghoul. Despite signs of a budding romance between Lucy and Maximus, shippers seem especially drawn to the fiery dynamic between Lucy and the Ghoul.

Here at GameSkinny, we’ve already covered why VaultGhoul would never work. So why does Ghoulcy continue to dominate Fallout fanart and fanfiction?

Fallout’s Great War Might Have Saved Humanity From Something Worse https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/fallouts-great-war-might-have-saved-humanity-from-something-worse/ Mon, 27 May 2024 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=194054

Fallout has many theories tied to it, including one that explains why the bombs were dropped in the first place.

The world of Fallout continues to hide mysteries of both an informative and downright terrifying kind. While many may immediately think of the terrible experiments done in the Vaults, some theories also allude to topics such as the Great War and a Lovecraftian reason for it happening in the first place.

When factoring in all of the moving parts in the world before the Great War, it’s hard to know how or what caused the bombs to start dropping. Some could argue it was a global conflict that reached a fever pitch, while other outlets, like the Fallout TV show, showed that the secret cause was Vault-Tec and other companies starting the war to protect their assets. However, the real cause may be more supernatural than anticipated.

Fallout Trogs Were Born From a Common Housecleaning Product https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/fallout-trogs-were-born-from-a-common-housecleaning-product/ Sun, 26 May 2024 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=193466

Trogs may have been born from a common chemical found in the games, according to this Fallout theory.

The Fallout universe is filled with all manner of irradiated creatures and individuals. But what you may not realize is that one of the deadliest creatures, the Trogs, were the product of a company that sold an iconic everyday cleaning item before the Great War.

Commonly found in The Pitt in Fallout 3 and Fallout 76, Trogs are what you might call a twisted mix of a zombie and Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. They are individuals who suffer from the Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion (TDC), which is a mixture of ambient radiation exposure and industrial toxins. While it’s not contagious, those who are affected by TDC rarely get a chance to be cured.

Fallout 4's Sole Survivor is the topic of a major theory, but is it true?

When it comes to the Fallout franchise, everyone has a first game. For those of you who have been there since Day 1, Fallout (1997) was probably your first. But for newcomers, Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 was likely the one that kickstarted it all. This was also the era of amazing fan theories that include Fallout 4‘s Sole Survivor being a synth.

In Fallout 4, you play as the Sole Survivor, a war veteran looking to live their life in peace with their spouse and infant son, Shaun. However, when the bombs start dropping, you’re immediately scuttled to Vault 111, which, like so many others, had a secret plan to test the cryogenic effects on humans. Sadly, this resulted in you watching raiders steal your son and kill your spouse. When you finally get out, you’re forced to enter the Wasteland to find your child.

Fallout is a hub for unique theories that include ones about the highly coveted stimpak.

The Fallout universe’s sprawling landscape is only matched by the amount of lore within the canon. From the mysteries of the Vaults to the technology that fuels the post-apocalyptic world, every aspect of the games has a story or theory, and even objects like stimpaks aren’t immune to them.

In Fallout, stimpaks work like any other Estes flask or health potion: they give you back some health after taking damage. In the original games, stimpaks only temporarily regained your health, but later entries changed this, so the effects were permanent.

Fallout 4 Theory Claims the Mannequins Are Evil https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/fallout-4-theory-claims-the-mannequins-are-evil/ Sat, 18 May 2024 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=190502

Fallout is a world of many secrets, but its creepiest has to do with all those mannequins.

The Fallout universe has always been a place of weirdness, even when removing the nuclear apocalypse from the equation. From human experimentation to synthetic robots, the universe was on the cusp of many great feats in science fiction, but the end result is much more sinister. This goes double for Fallout 4‘s mannequins who, according to one theory, are more than retail store props.

Much like the real world, Fallout 4 mannequins were used for retail stores and museums to showcase clothes or depict a moment in time. However, following the Great War, mannequins were still around but as discarded remnants of a bygone era. That said, one Fallout 4 theory believes that mannequins have a much darker mission in the Wasteland.

Sorry, Fallout Shippers: A Lucy and The Ghoul Romance Won’t Work https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/sorry-fallout-shippers-a-lucy-and-the-ghoul-romance-wont-work/ Sat, 11 May 2024 16:00:00 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=189554

Lucy and The Ghoul are fan-favorites in Fallout, but that doesn't mean romance is in the cards.

The Fallout TV show came at a time when successful video game adaptations were few and far between. Nevertheless, Fallout beat the odds and gave us an amazing series with new characters like Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul, who offer compelling stories and chemistry so fun many viewers ship the duo, even if a romance could never work in the show.

Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul, aka Cooper Howard, come from very different walks of life yet are united by the sins of their loved ones. Cooper was a famous actor whose wife worked for Vault-Tec and was the catalyst for allowing the bombs to eventually drop. Lucy’s father was one of the men who worked under Cooper’s wife in Vault-Tec and, like her, wasn’t innocent. In the end, both are betrayed by loved ones, with Lucy learning what happened to her mother and the part her father played in her fate.

Fallout Theory Reveals a Dark Secret About Dogmeat https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/fallout-theory-reveals-a-dark-secret-about-dogmeat/ Thu, 09 May 2024 17:37:04 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=189026

Dogmeat is a fan-favorite Fallout character who's backstory may be darker than you thought

The vast Fallout universe has always been a hub for unique stories that could be both terrifying and utterly fascinating. But for every dark fact, like the experiments on Vault Dwellers, there are theories that shed light on stranger topics. A perfect example of this is one theory that explains a dark backstory for Dogmeat in Fallout 4.

Who Is Dogmeat in Fallout 4?

While Fallout seems like an isolated and bleak world, there are many creatures, robots, and characters that you can travel the Wasteland with. One such companion, Dogmeat, could even be the first one the Sole Survivor encounters after escaping Vault 111. Dogmeat is a pleasant but obedient German Shepherd who’s as brutal as he is loyal. Because of this, it may be hard for you to switch up companions when Dogmeat is so resilient and adorable. However, one Reddit theory believes the reason Dogmeat is such a reliable and tough companion is because he’s actually a synth.

Fallout Theory Blames the Great War on Children’s Toys https://www.gameskinny.com/culture/fallout-theory-blames-the-great-war-on-childrens-toys/ Wed, 08 May 2024 18:50:53 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=188509

The Fallout universe is steeped with lore, but some theories take things a step further.

While bleak on the surface, the Fallout franchise has some of the most immersive worldbuilding outside of Bethedsa’s other massive franchise, The Elder Scrolls. That said, the Fallout universe’s shift from fantasy to a post-apocalyptic sci-fi hellscape comes with its own problems that lead to theories involving one that may prove how the war ACTUALLY started.

While it’s known that the bombs in Fallout dropped in 2077 as a result of the Sino-American War, you may not notice the story is set in the future as the aesthetic is so different. In the Fallout universe, the aesthetic remained in a 1950s-era setting where TVs were still black and white, and even the children’s toys still used lead-based paint.

Ranking all the Fallout fan games you should play (an one you should avoid).

The post Fallout Fan Games, Ranked appeared first on GameSkinny.

The original Fallout was released in 1997. Since then, the series received four mainline single-player sequels, a multiplayer-focused main title (Fallout 76), and a couple of non-canon spinoffs. That averages to one mainline title every 5.4 years. This leaves longtime fans looking outside the official games for their new adventure in the wastelands. For those players, we’ve ranked our favorites among all Fallout fan games.

Ranking All the Fallout Fan Games, Best to Worse

Fallout: Nevada

Fallout: Nevada (and its English translation) is an impressive fan game based on the Fallout 2 engine. Even though it’s based on the second entry in the series, Nevada is actually a prequel to the original game. This mod will be especially interesting to Fallout 2 fans, as the game tells the story of how Vault 8 became Vault City. This is a pivotal period for the series, as Vault 8 is one of the few Fallout vaults to work as intended, culminating in the creation of a new civilization.
