Apex Legends Ships That Deserve Canon Romances

Apex Legends has a couple of canon romances, but there are even more popular ships deserving of that status.

Unlike some FPS games, Apex Legends has always prioritized character diversity and lore. Every Legend has their own backstory and reason for joining the Apex Games. With the myriad of relationships also comes the question of romance. The long-anticipated romantic pairing of Fuse and Bloodhound became official, and Loba, Valkyrie, and Bangalore’s messy love triangle is an ongoing epic. Yet, for as many relationships we have, there are even more Apex Legends ships deserving of canon romances. Here are some of the most popular.

Wattson and Crypto

Wattson and Crypto are one of Apex Legends‘ most enduring ships. Speculation started back in Season 5, only for a miscommunication about Crypto’s status as a mole in “The Broken Ghosts” quest to create a divide. The two have since moved on. Thanks to Crypto’s sister, we know he still “likes her a lot.” What that “a lot” means is up for interpretation, but Wattson’s subtle blush certainly seems to hint the two harbor feelings that extend beyond friendship. Oh, and it’s also worth mentioning that Wattson is the only Legend Crypto trusts enough to reveal his real name to. Why aren’t they canon yet?

Wattson and Crypto Romance Tropes

  • Friends to lovers
  • Miscommunication
  • Secret identity

Mirage and Wraith

Both Day 1 Legends, Mirage and Wraith are Apex Legends‘ oldest (and most enduring) ship. Their relationship extends long before the Apex Games. However, it’s always been platonic, according to canon. This, of course, does little to explain Wraith’s seeming jealousy after Rampart and Mirage became roommates in Season 6. And, after Mirage hurt Wraith’s feelings by calling her “train wreck brain,” he prioritized making things right with her, even going as far as to get his mother involved. “Miraith” still isn’t canon, but it’s easy to see why so many fans adore them. Wraith’s black cat energy is the perfect companion to Mirage’s Golden Retriever personality.

Miraith Romance Tropes

  • Friends to lovers
  • Grumpy x Sunshine
  • Opposites attract

Wraith and Wattson

Wraith and Wattson’s hopeful pairing has been long simmering in the Apex Legends community. Dubbed “Darksparks,” the ship has got a whole lot of opposites-attract energy. Wraith undoubtedly considers Wattson one of her closest friends, and the feeling is mutual, with Wattson declaring Wraith her “family.” While that’s certainly sweet, it also suggests Darksparks is less electric and more platonic. Still, a shipper can dream. Although Wattson and Crypto would make a great couple (or Mirage and Wraith), there’d be few complaints if Wattson and Wraith got together.

Darksparks Romance Tropes

  • Opposites attract
  • Friends to lovers
  • Different worlds

Seer and Catalyst

Seer and Catalyst both hail from the same planet of Boreas. However, some messy backstory involving the destruction of their home planet resulted in serious tension upon Catalyst’s introduction in Season 15. Since then, Seer and Catalyst’s interactions have taken on a more love/hate tone than true disdain, and even more recently, they’ve actually seemed to have bonded. While Seer is pansexual, Catalyst’s sexual orientation is still unknown. However, those who like a little enemies to lovers with their romance are hoping for canon to land on their side. Can you blame them?

  • Enemies to lovers
  • Love/Hate
  • Magical Heroine

Lifeline and Octane

Most Apex Legneds players will probably argue that Octane and Lifeline are purely platonic, more like siblings than anything else. While that might be true, there’s no denying the two have a lot of potential if Cupid’s arrow were to strike. Childhood friends with a host of reunions and rescue stints under their belts, Octane and Lifeline are dripping with romance tropes. Sure, staying friends is perfectly fine, but ruling out a “it was right in front of you all along” moment shouldn’t be written off entirely.

Lifeline and Octane Romance Tropes

  • Childhood friends
  • Sworn off romance (at least with each other)
  • Feeling Realizations
