Cities: Skylines 2

Cities: Skylines 2 Builds Up For An October Release

Cities: Skylines 2 has an official release date for this year.

Paradox Interactive showed off a brief trailer for Cities: Skylines 2 during the Xbox Games Showcase today. While the game had been announced a few months back (alongside an end-of-life sale for the original Cities: Skylines), we now have a solid look at the visual design of the game, and it suitably looks next-generation.

The graphics have a beautiful sheen to them that will undoubtedly make mega-cities look stunning, but there doesn’t seem to be much that differentiates this from the first game. Paradox has yet to speak about what content will launch in Cities: Skylines 2. Will players start from the same base content as the original? Will this include a number of expansions?

What we can tell is that traffic seems to automatically sort itself out. The trailer shows a player laying down roads and railways and there isn’t much in the way of micromanagement. That wouldn’t make for the most engaging trailer, so it probably is still a factor in your layout decisions. At least the wonderful automatic neighborhood feature is back. Trying to place individual roads for houses can be aggravating.

Whatever the case, fans will be able to dive into the city of their dreams when Cities: Skylines 2 launches on October 24, 2023. It will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
