With no prior build-up or marketing, Ubisoft has shadow-dropped the second paid DLC pack for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope during today’s Nintendo Direct. Titled “The Last Spark Hunter,” this expansion will take players to the “Melodic Gardens” where they will investigate the origins of the threat looming over this new planet. They’ll also face off against the titular Spark Hunter, named Kanya.

During their journey to the Melodic Gardens, players will explore a musical jungle and some mysterious ruins as well as get the chance to sail across a vast ocean and sparkling lakes. As with the previous DLC pack, The Last Spark Hunter will include new enemies and different tactical challenges for players to overcome. While the first DLC pack, The Tower of Doom, wasn’t particularly long, this one promises to have more content for players to sink their teeth into.

WarioWare: Move It! Shakes on Over to Switch This November https://www.gameskinny.com/news/warioware-move-it-shakes-on-over-to-switch-this-november/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 17:05:46 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=95527

The next WarioWare isn't far off, with WarioWare: Move It! coming later this year.

Wario is shaking his way back onto the Switch this fall with WarioWare: Move It, the latest collection of micro-games from the wacky minds at Nintendo. Making use of the Joy-Con’s unique features, Move It will include over 200 different micro-games with co-op play for two players. A party mode with four-player functionality is also teased in the game’s official description.

Some of the highlights in the trailer include a micro-game based on Super Mario 64 DS, asking a dog for a paw, chopping a bamboo stalk, and pulling a Pikmin out of the ground. It’s fun to see Nintendo pull from all of its franchises for WarioWare, which has always given the series a fun identity and feel. It’s maybe too bad that this new game won’t have online support, but Nintendo still seems to be entirely shy of including that with any of its titles.

Splatoon 3’s Next Splatfest Asks which Ice Cream Flavor You Prefer https://www.gameskinny.com/news/splatoon-3s-next-splatfest-asks-which-ice-cream-flavor-you-prefer/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 16:52:05 +0000 https://www.gameskinny.com/?p=95537

The next Splatfest runs in July, ice cream lovers should cast their vote!

With all of the excitement surrounding today’s Nintendo Direct, you’d be forgiven for thinking Nintendo is focusing solely on its future. Thankfully, Splatoon 3 exists and is still kicking some butt, so Nintendo will be hosting a new Splatfest this weekend. This time, the theme is focused on which flavor of ice cream is the best. I’m not sure why cookie dough isn’t an option, but players will be able to vote for Vanilla, Strawberry, or Mint Chip and then duke it out to prove their flavor’s supremacy.

A new chapter of Mario titles is coming with Super Mario Bros. Wonder later this year.

As was speculated before today’s Nintendo Direct, the Big N announced a brand new 2D Mario platformer for its popular hybrid console. Dubbed Super Mario Wonder, the game is set for an October 20, 2023, release and will feature one of the most bizarre power-ups yet: Elephant Mario.

Having finally ditched the cut-and-paste style of the New Super Mario Bros. titles, Super Mario Wonder will employ an almost papercraft style with highly animated 2D sprites playing over richly detailed environments. While the general gameplay doesn’t reshape the mold of Mario’s past, a plethora of new power-ups will alter the way Mario and his friends progress through the stage. That’s an interesting twist, for certain.

In a surprise announcement, Nintendo revealed Super Mario RPG is getting a remake and that it's coming this year.

As part of today’s seriously packed Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo announced some new projects for its mascot plumber. One of those was a full 3D remake of Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars. Released back in 1996 on the SNES as a collaboration between Nintendo and then-Squaresoft (now Square Enix), the game has developed a passionate fan following that has been dying to see some kind of continuation or remake for years. Those prayers have finally been answered.

Set for release on November 17, 2023, Super Mario RPG looks ultra faithful to the original despite its graphical change. While the new art style doesn’t exactly mimic the pre-rendered look of the SNES version, it has the same proportions and isometric view with practically the same level design. One noticeable addition is that of full motion cutscenes, which were obviously not possible when the game originally released on the SNES. That will likely help give some extra oomph to the story, which is a fun and memorable journey in its own right.

Here's a new look at Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin.

Revealed during the PC Gaming Show, the first footage for Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin was shown off, and it gives us a solid idea of how this new RTS will play. Featuring both a cinematic single-player campaign and cross-platform multiplayer with 1v1 and 2v2 settings, Realms of Ruin harkens back to the tabletop roots of the Warhammer franchise. Drawing from the series’ past, players will build bases, accumulate resources, and engage in massive warfare that could reasonably be compared to the Dawn of War series.

For Realms of Ruin’s multiplayer, you’ll attempt to earn more “Victory Points” than your opponents while simultaneously draining their score down to zero. It’s a war of attrition as you capture Arcane Conduits around the map and pad out your number of units by building Bastions.

Paradox Interactive showed off a brief trailer for Cities: Skylines 2 during the Xbox Games Showcase today. While the game had been announced a few months back (alongside an end-of-life sale for the original Cities: Skylines), we now have a solid look at the visual design of the game, and it suitably looks next-generation.

The graphics have a beautiful sheen to them that will undoubtedly make mega-cities look stunning, but there doesn’t seem to be much that differentiates this from the first game. Paradox has yet to speak about what content will launch in Cities: Skylines 2. Will players start from the same base content as the original? Will this include a number of expansions?

Sea of Thieves is the gift that keeps on giving. After putting in a rather touching Monkey Island easter egg a few years back, Rare’s explosive pirate co-op game will be getting a fully-fledged expansion based on the classic LucasArts adventure series. Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, it appears this new journey to Melee Island will explore what has become of Guybrush following his adventures from the previous Monkey Island games.

During the beginning of Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, indie developer Thunder Lotus announced its next project: 33 Immortals. A top-down action game that looks quite similar to Hades, the unique hook with this action title is that it features 33-player co-op support.

You and a small army of friends can team up to take on MMO-like raids together. That’s one way to break the mold set by other similar roguelites despite its apparent inspiration from Hades. 33 players is a number seen rarely in multiplayer games, much less a roguelite.
