Depths of Illusive Realm is Wuthering Waves’ special Roguelite game mode, where you pick a single Resonator and clear a dungeon instance while getting different upgrades. To unlock the game mode, reach Union Level 17 and head into the Events page to track the Depths of Illusive Realm quest, which will lead you to the game mode’s entrance area. You’ll locate the door where you can start this mode, play a short tutorial introduction, and then start playing it actively.

Essentially, in Depths of Illusive Realm, you choose a stage, then choose a single Resonator from a predetermined set for that stage or the Trial Resonator that you might not have unlocked. Then, you’re transported to a dungeon instance with various encounters called Memory Rooms with different modifiers ending with the final Memory Room being a boss fight. In the first room, you can pick a different Echo each time, which will be your main and only Echo for that single run. The neat part is that you can then upgrade that Echo and your other skills with Metaphors.

Metaphors are upgrades you’ll pick up in the first room and then each Memory Room you clear. They grant you upgrades and Elemental stacks like Fusion, Electro, Glacio, etc. Depending on your Echo, stacking the same Element or multiple ones actively upgrades your Echo, allowing you to shapeshift into that Echo, get their unique skill or ultimate, and more.

You’ll also get Dream Fragments after each Memory Room to use in the Shop Room to buy more Metaphors, upgrades, etc. You can even pick up companions to call for their Intro skills like damage from Chixia or healing from Baizhi. Dream Fragments and Metaphors reset for each run, and your HP is shared between Memory rooms. If you die, you lose the run but can start one again.

Playing Depths of Illusive Realm and winning runs will get you both Achievements, which award Astrite but also two unique resources. These three rewards are structured as follows:

  • Astrite Achievements: For example, by beating Stage IV with different Echoes or with specific Resonators like Calcharo, you’ll learn Achievements that grant Astrite, which you can spend in the Convene.
  • Loot: Completing also earns you fixed amounts of Astrite, EXP, and Shell Credits.
  • Illusive Specimen: With each run, you’ll also earn the Illusive Specimen resource, which can be spent in the Depths of Illusive Realm store. You can buy Astrite or EXP consumables for Resonators, Echoes, and Weapons. There are even special Echoes available for purchase so check back often.
  • Memory Points: Lastly, the second special resource is Memory Points, which you’ll use to strengthen your Resonators with powerful upgrades, but these boosts apply only while in the Depths of Illusive Realm game mode.

Overall, the Depths of Illusive Realm game mode for Wuthering Waves is a great alternative for farming EXP and Astrite, and the Roguelite mechanics are implemented quite well. Plus, you get to turn into World Bosse, which is rad as hell. For more Wuthering Waves guides, check out the best Echoes for Jianxin.
